Thomas Islet (52˚54'00" 128˚08'00" Mussel Inlet, E of Princess Royal I). Named by the hydrographic service in 1965 after Able Seaman John Thomas, a crew member aboard HMS Discovery during Capt George Vancouver’s expedition to the PNW, 1791–95. Thomas was one of several members of a survey team, under Lt James Johnstone and Midshipman Robert Barrie, who ate tainted mussels for breakfast while working in this area with the ship’s boats.
