Ucluth Peninsula


Ucluth Peninsula (48˚57'00" 125˚35'00" W of Ucluelet Inlet, NW of Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). The ancient Ucluelet First Nation village site of Ucluth (now a reserve) is located on the ocean side of the peninsula, at the N end. The word is related to the name Ucluelet (see Ucluelet) and may have a similar meaning of “a safe landing place.” Whether the original landing place was located at Ucluth village or somewhere else is not clear, however.
