Umme Point


Umme Point (51˚43'00" 127˚59'00" NE entrance to Goldstream Hbr, Hecate I, W side of Fitz Hugh Sd, SE of Bella Bella). Umme is an adaptation of a Heiltsuk or Kwakwala word meaning “small” or “little.” The name was adopted from the 1884 Comparative Vocabularies of the Indian Tribes of BC, by William Fraser Tolmie and George Mercer Dawson. Formerly known as Kelp Point.
