Ursula Rock (49˚46'00" 124˚34'00" Sturt Bay, E side of Texada I, NW Malaspina Str). Named in 1899 by BC master mariner and coastal historian Capt John Walbran. According to Walbran, he was prompted to come up with this name when the leadman in the bow of his vessel, asked if the objects in the water up ahead were rocks, replied that they were “but they look like little black bears.” As the Latin word for bear is ursus, Walbran decided that this would be a good time to commemorate Ursula...
