Van Inlet


Van Inlet (53˚16'00" 132˚34'00" NE side of Cartwright Sd, SW side of Graham I, QCI), Van Point (53˚15'00" 132˚38'00" W entrance to Van Inlet). The origin of this name is not known with certainty. It may be an abbreviation for Vancouver. The long, narrow inlet appears on Capt Absalom Freeman’s 1912 chart as Van Hbr. The Haida people knew it as Ki-ow or Xi’ao. An iron-copper deposit at its head has never been developed. D
