Vere Cove

Vere Cove (50˚23'00" 125˚46'00" W end of W Thurlow I, Johnstone Str, NW of Campbell R). Named in 1899 in association with nearby Dorothy Rk by Cdr Morris Smyth, in charge of the RN survey vessel Egeria, 1898–1900. Dorothy and Vera Thurlow were his nieces, the daughters of Maj Reginald Thurlow of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. It is not known if these Thurlows were related to Lord Edward Thurlow, the 18th-century British lord chancellor after whom the Thurlow Is are named, or how Vera became...
