Villaverde Islands

Villaverde Islands (49˚40'00" 126˚34'00" NW of Bligh I, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Named after Fr José Joaquin Villaverde, chaplain of the San Carlos in 1791. That year the San Carlos and its crew sailed from Mexico to Nootka Sd and then, under the command of Francisco Eliza, into the Str of Georgia, accompanied by José Narváez in the Santa Saturnina. They were the first European explorers to see these inside waters. Formerly known as the Junction Is.
