Viner Point


Viner Point (50˚08'00" 125˚08'00" S point of Read I, NE of Campbell R, N end of Str of Georgia), Viner Sound (50˚47'00" 126˚24'00" NW side of Gilford I, NE of Port McNeill). After Capt William Viner Read, an assistant in the RN’s hydrographic dept in the 1860s. Viner Lk on Gilford I is also named for him. See Read I. Viner Sd was once the site of a large Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation village. George O’Brien operated a railway logging camp at the head of the sound, 1924–32....
