Welch Rock

Welch Rock (52˚14'00" 128˚27'00" Off NW side of Athlone I, Milbanke Sd, NW of Bella Bella). Matilda Welch (1840– 1905) came to Canada from Ireland in 1860 and married Michael Muir (1835–88), a son of Vancouver I pioneer John Muir, in 1862. The Muir family had immigrated to BC in 1849 to work at the HBC’s Ft Rupert coal mines (see Muir Cove). They later settled at Sooke and farmed.
