Weyburn Rock (52˚01'00" 128˚26'00" Off N end of Goose Group, Queens Sd, SW of Bella Bella). The corvette HMCS Weyburn, under Lt Cdr Thomas Golby (see Golby Passage), struck a mine and sank in the Mediterranean off Cape Espartel, E of Gibraltar, while on convoy duty in Feb 1943. Seven crew members, including Lt Cdr Golby, were killed. The 63-m, 862-tonne vessel was built at Port Arthur, Ont, and launched in 1941.
