Winchelsea Islands (49˚18'00" 124˚05'00" NE of entrance to Nanoose Hbr, between Nanaimo and Parksville, off E side of Vancouver I). Capt George Richards of the RN survey vessel Plumper named these islands in 1860, probably after Winchelsea in E Sussex, an important English port during the 12th and 13th centuries.
