Zayas Island


Zayas Island (54˚36'15" 131˚04'36" W of Dundas I, E end of Dixon Entrance, NW of Prince Rupert). Named in 1792 by Spanish explorer Lt Jacinto Caamaño, who was sent by Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra to survey the N coast of BC on either side of Dixon Entrance and search for the Str of Fonte, a navigable sea passage that supposedly crossed N America at this latitude.
