Zuciarte Channel (49˚38'00" 126˚30'00" E side of Nootka Sd, E of Bligh I, W side of Vancouver I). This name, despite its spelling and geographic location, is not of Spanish origin. According to coastal historian Capt John Walbran and pioneer Roman Catholic missionary Augustin Brabant, it is an adaptation of the name of a Muchalaht First Nation clan whose members were traditional enemies of Mowachaht chief Maquinna (both groups were part of the Nuu-chah-nulth tribal confederacy).
