BC RESOURCES INVESTMENT CORP was created in 1977 by the SOCIAL CREDIT government. It had its origins in BC Cellulose, a CROWN CORP created earlier by the NDP government to manage 4 forestry companies it had rescued from insolvency. BCRIC privatized 3 of these companies along with some other public resource assets. Shares were offered for sale, and in 1979 the government offered every BC citizen 5 free shares.
