ALEXANDRA BRIDGE crosses the FRASER R in the canyon, 20 km north of YALE on the TRANS-CANADA HWY. The original bridge was built slightly north of the present site by Joseph TRUTCH in 1863 as part of the CARIBOO WAGON ROAD. It was the first suspension bridge west of the ROCKY MTS in Canada and continued to be used until it was washed out in 1894.
