ATHANS, George Stanley, water-ski champion (b 6 July 1952, Kelowna). The son of champion diver George ATHANS, he was the Canadian senior water-skiing champion 1965–74 and the world champion 1971–74. He was also a 2-time World Cup winner and the first foreigner to capture the US masters crown. He set and broke the world slalom record in 4 consecutive years, 1969–72.
