AUTO RACING started in BC at the LANGFORD Speedway northwest of VICTORIA on VANCOUVER ISLAND, which opened in the early 1920s and claimed to be Canada's first paved track. Since 1954 the Western Speedway has operated a racing oval and drag strip at Langford. Billy Foster of Victoria, one of BC's first internationally successful drivers, developed his skills at the Western, which under the management of Reg Midgley was once considered one of the top short tracks on the west coast of N America....
