BC MOUNTAINEERING CLUB held its inaugural meeting in VANCOUVER on 18 Nov 1907 as the Vancouver MOUNTAINEERING Club, but changed its name on 29 Mar 1909. In the early years a cabin on the slopes of GROUSE MT was the focus of the club and activities centred on the North Shore mountains. The BCMC also had a close relationship with the Garibaldi area and put a great deal of effort into advocating the creation of a provincial park there (see GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK).
