BEAVER POINT, on the southeast corner of SALTSPRING ISLAND in the GULF ISLANDS (40 km north of VICTORIA), was first settled about 1860. Henry Ruckle arrived in 1872, built a wharf, established a post office in 1884 and developed the largest farm on the island (4.86 sq km). Still operating, it is the oldest family farm in BC and is part of Ruckle Provincial Park (see AGRICULTURE; PARKS, PROVINCIAL).
