BELLA BELLA, pop 1,211, is on Campbell Island (166 sq km) overlooking Lama Passage, about 520 km north of VANCOUVER via the INSIDE PASSAGE. It takes its name from the HEILTSUK (Bella Bella) nation. The community originated as the FUR TRADE centre of FORT McLOUGHLIN, operated by the HBC from 1833 to 1843.
