Black Pines

BLACK PINES is a rural area of hobby farms and small acreages on the west side of the N THOMPSON R, 30 km north of KAMLOOPS. It was the site of an early ranch owned by Alex McLean from 1873 to 1909 (see CATTLE INDUSTRY). Just to the north is Whispering Pines, pop 48, a village founded in 1972 by a group of SECWEPEMC (Shuswap) people who moved from the CLINTON area to avoid BC HYDRO development.
