CALONA WINES LTD, BC's oldest winery still in business, was launched in KELOWNA in 1932 by a syndicate of investors that included Giuseppe Ghezzi, "Cap" CAPOZZI and W.A.C.BENNETT. Bennett, a teetotaller, was company president until his election to the legislature in 1941. Originally called Domestic Wines and By-Products Co, it produced apple wines until switching to grapes in 1935 and taking the new name, suggested by customers.
