Castlegar


CASTLEGAR, city, pop 7,259 (2006), is in the KOOTENAY near the south end of ARROW LK at the confluence of the KOOTENAY and COLUMBIA rivers about halfway between Calgary and VANCOUVER. The name is a combination of the Gaelic word gar, meaning rock, and castle, after the shape of a large rock formation nearby.
