Cathedral Grove


CATHEDRAL GROVE is a small remnant stand of western red CEDAR and DOUGLAS FIR 16 km east of PORT ALBERNI, bisected by Hwy 4. The trees survived a FOREST FIRE that ravaged the area 300 years ago. Some of them are more than 800 years old and 75 m tall. The grove attracts some 200,000 visitors annually. It was donated to the public by H.R. MacMILLAN and forms part of the 1.36 sq km MacMillan Provincial PARK (est 1947).
