Chilko Lake


CHILKO LAKE, 185.4 sq km, 83 km long, south of Hwy 20 in the CHILCOTIN, is the centrepiece of Ts'yl-os Provincial PARK (est 1994; 2,332.4 sq km), a wilderness park jointly managed by the province and the TSILHQOT'IN First Nation. At 1,171 m elevation, Chilko is the highest major LAKE in BC. Its frigid blue-green waters drain north via the Chilko R, which has BC's third largest sockeye SALMON run.
