Chiton


CHITON  () is an ancient marine MOLLUSC belonging to the class Polyplacophora. Of several hundred species worldwide, at least 20 are found in the intertidal zone along the BC coast, including the giant Pacific or gumboot chiton (Cryptochiton stelleri), the largest in the world (to 33 cm).
