CLAYTON, 15 km southeast of NEW WESTMINSTER, was an early settlement in SURREY. John George opened a store where the old Yale Rd crossed the CLOVER VALLEY Rd. In 1889 he added a post office and named it after his Ontario hometown. The spot became a station on the NEW WESTMINSTER SOUTHERN RWY in 1891. Growth elsewhere in Surrey made Clayton's section of track obsolete and the community had faded into obscurity by WWI.
