COALMONT is a small cluster of houses on the Tulameen R, 17 km northwest of PRINCETON on the old stagecoach route to MERRITT. It was founded after COAL was discovered in the surrounding hills in 1906. An aerial tramway was built to carry the coal from the mines at BLAKEBURN down to a rail line here to be shipped out. Since the last mine closed in 1940, Coalmont has been home to only a few residents.
