Cody Caves

CODY CAVES are located inland from the west side of KOOTENAY LK, 15 km northwest of AINSWORTH HOT SPRINGS. Discovered in the 1880s by Henry Cody, a prospector, they were rumoured to be lined with GOLD, but none was ever found. They do contain wonderful calcite formations, which make them a favourite with spelunkers. The caves, 800 m deep, are part of Cody Caves Provincial PARK (63 ha), created in 1966 (see KARST FORMATIONS).
