COLDSTREAM, district municipality, pop 9,471 (2006), occupies a long, narrow valley in the north OKANAGAN VALLEY 5 km southeast of VERNON. Most of the population is clustered at the western end close to KALAMALKA LK. The first settler was Charles F. HOUGHTON, an Irish army officer who acquired a military grant in 1863 that became Coldstream Ranch (see CATTLE INDUSTRY).
