HOUGHTON, Charles Frederick, soldier (b Kilkenny, Ireland; d 13 Aug 1898, Victoria). A close friend of the VERNON brothers, he accompanied them from Ireland to BC in 1863. He settled on land near the north end of OKANAGAN LK at COLDSTREAM, where he was a prominent gentleman farmer. In 1872 he served briefly as an MP in Ottawa before resigning his seat.
