COLUMBIA ICEFIELD, 225 sq km, is an immense ice cap straddling the BC–Alberta border south of Jasper on the Icefields Parkway. It is composed of a central névé of snow and ice up to 365 m thick, from which glaciers radiate into the surrounding valleys. The icefield was located in 1898 by British MOUNTAINEERS Norman Collie and Hermann Wooley.
