COMINCO (formerly Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co of Canada Ltd), based in VANCOUVER, was created in 1906 by the merger of assorted MINING interests with the TRAIL smelter owned by the CPR. The new company, dominated by the CPR, also owned rail lines and power facilities but its main asset was the SMELTER, which had been upgraded to handle output from most of the mines in the booming KOOTENAY district.
