COWAN, John Lawrence "Jack," soccer player (b 6 June 1927, Vancouver; d there 10 Dec 2000). He began playing SOCCER in VANCOUVER's Grandview area as a youngster and emerged as the first BC player to play first-division soccer in the UK. While starring for UBC, Cowan impressed an international referee from Scotland and was offered a tryout with the Scottish League's Dundee United.
