DAVID, Joe, artist (b 30 May 1946, Opitsat). Born to the Tla-o-qui-aht (Clayoquot) nation of the NUU-CHAH-NULTH, he credited his father Hyacinth David as his main teacher of cultural tradition. He was raised at Opitsat on MEARES ISLAND and in Seattle, and studied graphic design in Texas.
