DE ROO, Remi, Catholic bishop (b 24 Feb 1924, Swan Lake, MB). Ordained a priest in 1950, he received a doctorate in theology from the Angelicum Univ in Rome in 1952. He arrived in BC at the end of 1962 from Manitoba as the new bishop of VANCOUVER ISLAND. The author of several books, including Cries of Victims—Voices of God (1986) and A Cause de L'Evangile (1988), he has been an outspoken activist on issues of world peace and social justice, and his influence spread far beyond his diocese.
