Dease Lake Post


DEASE LAKE POST was an HBC trading post at Sawmill Point on the east side of DEASE LK, established by Robert CAMPBELL in 1838. The post was the base for Campbell's exploration of the upper STIKINE R that summer. After a winter marked by food shortages, the traders abandoned the post. The present community (pop 650) at the south end of the lake is near the site of the old fort.
