Dog Creek


DOG CREEK, pop 116, is on a back road east of the FRASER R about 80 km south of WILLIAMS LAKE, across from the GANG RANCH. It was originally a SECWEPEMC (Shuswap) village, Xqet'em, and FIRST NATIONS people continue to live here and at nearby Sexqeltqin (Canoe Creek). The earliest white settlers arrived in the Dog Crk Valley in the 1850s, and the community grew as the centre of the surrounding CARIBOO farming and ranch country (see AGRICULTURE; CATTLE INDUSTRY).
