GANG RANCH, on the west side of the FRASER R 80 km south of WILLIAMS LAKE in CHILCOTIN country, was started in 1874 by 2 brothers, Thaddeus and Jerome Harper. In 1876–77 Thaddeus drove a herd of cattle from the Chilcotin to California via Washington state, the longest drive ever made from Canada. Eventually the ranch was taken over by British financial interests, who made extensive improvements; for a time it was the largest cattle spread in N America with more than 16,000 sq km of GRASSLAND....
