DOIG RIVER, pop 139 (2001), is a FIRST NATIONS community 30 km northeast of FORT ST JOHN at the confluence of the Doig and Beatton rivers. The Doig River people moved here from Fort St John following WWII when the federal government took back their original reserve (see RESERVES) for AGRICULTURAL settlement. Trapping and the CATTLE INDUSTRY are the main economic activities.
