Dominion Astrophysical Observatory


DOMINION ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY on Little Saanich Mt north of VICTORIA was established in 1918 by the federal government. Its 1.85-m telescope was the largest in the world at that time and was used to collect important data about the Milky Way. A 1.2-m telescope was added in 1962.
