Dudoward, Alfred


DUDOWARD, Alfred, Tsimshian leader (b 1848, Port Simpson; d unknown). He was the son of a ranking Lax Kw'aalams woman, Elizabeth Diex, and a French Canadian trader named Dudoier. Dudoward lived for a time in VICTORIA with his mother, then returned to Port Simpson (see FORT SIMPSON) to be chief. He married Katharine Holmes in 1871 and the couple were converted to Methodism during a visit to Victoria.
