Fort Simpson


FORT SIMPSON was first established in 1831 by the HBC as Fort Nass on the NASS R to counter Russian and American fur trade competition on the North Coast. That same year it was renamed for the company trader Aemilius SIMPSON. In 1834 it was relocated to the TSIMSHIAN location known as Lax Kw'alaams to allow supply ships easier access.
