SIMPSON, Aemilius, hydrographer, fur trader (b 27 July 1792, Scotland; d 2 Sept 1831, Fort Simpson, Nass River). The son of a schoolmaster, he entered the Royal Navy as a young boy and served in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1826 his relative George SIMPSON, governor of the HBC, offered him a post as hydrographer and surveyor with the company.
