DUNCAN, William, missionary (b 3 Apr 1832, Bishop Burton, England; d 30 Aug 1918, New Metlakatla, AK). He was a leather salesman with experience in business, then trained for mission work at the ANGLICAN Church Missionary Society's Highbury College. In 1857 the society sent him to the North Coast to serve as a lay missionary to the TSIMSHIAN people living at FORT SIMPSON, an HBC post. He decided after 4 years that the disadvantages of life at the post were not conducive to his success....
