ELLIS, Thomas, rancher (b 26 April 1845, Tyrone, Ireland; d 1 Feb 1918, Victoria). He arrived in BC early in 1865 and was placed in charge of stores for the construction of the DEWDNEY TRAIL east of OSOYOOS. The next year he pre-empted 2.6 sq km at the south end of OKANAGAN LK, the first step in amassing a ranching empire that at one point totalled 120 sq km and 20,000 head of cattle.
