OSOYOOS () , town, pop 4,752 (2006), is located at a narrowing of Osoyoos Lk at the south end of the OKANAGAN VALLEY near the US border, 400 km east of VANCOUVER. Sited on an ancient crossing place, it takes its name from an OKANAGAN word meaning "where the lake narrows." The district attracted outside interest with the GOLD RUSHES of the 1860s.
