Endeavour Hot (Hydrothermal) Vents


ENDEAVOUR HOT (HYDROTHERMAL) VENTS are openings in the earth's crust located on the ocean floor at a depth of 2,250 m, 250 km southwest of VANCOUVER ISLAND. The vents were discovered in 1982, along with a rich surrounding ecosystem: numerous unique species of animals are supported by microbes whose life processes are fuelled by chemical energy from the vents.
