Erie

ERIE, 34 km south of NELSON on Hwy 3B at Erie Crk, was a MINING settlement on the NELSON & FORT SHEPPARD RWY founded in the 1890s to serve the nearby Relief and Arlington GOLD mines. By 1903 Erie had 2 hotels and a population of 200. Mining took place intermittently in the area until the 1950s, by which time the community had waned. Today there are just a few buildings beside the highway.
