EWEN, Alexander, pioneer salmon canner (b 22 Nov 1832, Aberdeen, Scotland; d 8 July 1907, New Westminster). His father was a SALMON fisher and he became foreman of several fishing stations on the coast of his native Scotland. In 1864 he arrived in BC to manage a FRASER R salmon-curing operation owned by Alexander Annandale. When the enterprise failed after one season, Ewen continued fishing and salting salmon for export.
